Dr. Telfeyan sees each person as an individual with their own unique life experiences and circumstances. She focuses on the strengths of each client in order to help them better cope with difficulties while setting short- and long-term goals to manage problems and find solutions.
Dr. Telfeyan employs narrative therapy to help people tell their stories in a healing and meaningful way. Self-expression is an important aspect of treatment: Describing your feelings, thoughts, values and attitudes in your own voice often alleviates depression and anxiety.
Dr. Telfeyan also uses cognitive behavioral techniques to help clients manage their reactions to stressful situations, relationships or thoughts by re-evaluating expectations and strategies.
About Dr. Telfeyan
Dr. Telfeyan has a Ph.D. from New York University in Clinical Social Work and a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California. She has taught social work graduate school in clinical practice, human behavior and substance abuse at New York University, Stony Brook University and Molloy College.
Dr. Telfeyan possesses considerable expertise in the areas of sexual abuse, trauma, child neglect, substance abuse and family dysfunction as well as serious psychiatric disorders. She has run programs citywide for families, adolescents and children from diverse backgrounds and all walks of life.
Dr. Telfeyan is nonjudgmental and respectful, believing that there is no right or wrong where feelings are concerned and that too much self-judgment can be a hindrance to emotional health.
